Panoramic hike on the Marseille Calanques

+33 photos
Kick off your adventure at Luminy, nestled on the fringe of the Calanques National Park, one of Marseille's most awe-inspiring natural wonders. As you journey through, a guide will introduce you to Aleppo pines, holm oaks, laurel, thyme, various types of juniper and other iconic species native to the Calanques. Next, you'll start the climb to the goat pass, perched at an altitude of 215 m.Upon reaching the summit, it's the ideal moment for a picnic while soaking up the panoramic views over the azure Mediterranean. Post lunch, you'll descend through the striking cliffs. Initially, some exposed sections will demand your utmost attention, hence sturdy footwear is crucial. Delve into numerous caves as the surrounding flora begins to transform.Throughout this trek, your guide will discuss environmental concerns, delve into the park's geology and explain how human activities have impacted this delicate coastal ecosystem. Once you reach the cove, take a well-earned break to unwind. Even during spring or autumn, a swim (or for the more daring among you, a dive) in the crystal clear waters is feasible! This moderately strenuous trek traverses uneven, rocky landscapes and rewards explorers with some of the most spectacular coastal vistas in southern France, far removed from the bustling crowds of central Marseille.
